Our mission is to protect patients and preserve the integrity of implant dentistry... The Institute for Dental Implant Awareness (IDIA) is a not for profit corporation. We have no agenda other than protecting patients, by supporting the team approach to dentistry and adequate training for implant placement, which also preserves the integrity of implant dentistry. We have been publishing patient education materials since 1997 and disseminating Standard of Care information to the profession since 2001.
Our newsletters are calling attention to critical issues impacting patients and the profession...
- Implant companies selling implants directly to “non-surgical” dentists
- Implant companies promoting abbreviated surgical training courses
- The increase in failures and complications as a result of inadequate training
- “Implant super centers” advertising that they are the premier providers of implant treatment
Our goals are...
- Update IDIA members on industry and market trends that undermine the success of their implant practices
- Educate patients to select an experienced implant surgeon with extensive training
- Establish a de facto standard of care for surgical implant treatment
- Inform the public of the advantages of the private practice team approach compared to “one stop” implant centers
